The advent of Big Data in computing is about to restructure almost every aspect of today’s society. By collecting and evaluating huge amounts of data, social systems like tourism and logistics can be optimized to a yet-unknown potential. At the same time, the number of tourists globally, and especially in Japan, is on the rise. Hence, there is a need for immediate response to that extended demand for accommodations, travel options, information, and logistics. Here, Big Data promises to provide optimized analytics capabilities, supporting decision makers on how to cope best with the upcoming flood of passengers, guests, travelers and visitors.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together the key stakeholders in this transformation, ranging from tourism and logistics industries over science and academia to government agencies and institutions. It intends to foster the dialogue among these stakeholders, identify new strategies for future developments, and analyze the power of big data in this timely application domain.
